The Department of Botany is one of the pioneering science departments and one of the finest departments in this College with its new dimension of teaching and excellent laboratory facilities for undergraduate (Hons and General) students.

There is an herbal garden associated with this department aids to better understanding of the subject. The Botany laboratory is designed in accordance with the standard norms for Biology-laboratories. Light is available for microscopic observations in all the laboratories. The Botany laboratory is adequately illuminated and airy. It has working capacity for a batch of 32 students. The carpet area of the laboratory is 122sq.mts.

The vision and mission of this department are to be a center of excellence, and maintain, discover, and transmit knowledge among varieties of Plant Biology fields and thrust areas like Molecular biology, Plant Pathology, Cytogenetics, Plant Taxonomy, Cryptogamic Botany, and Plant Physiology and Biochemistry. Moreover, the department has the intension for expansion of academic co-operation and up-gradation of students’ knowledge by facilitating their active participation in National and International Seminar and Conferences. Another important mission of this department is to produce entrepreneurs for prosperous ventures in the selected fields of their advancements with global perspective.

Annual educational tours to Indian Botanic Garden (Shibpur, Howrah), Eastern Himalayas, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Gangtok, regular visits to the adjoining areas of college, and Burdwan University campus are conducted by all the faculties of the department. Students are much benefitted from these tours and can understand the subject in a better way.

Students of this department has employed in various prestigious organizations and Universities over the Years. It is matter of pride for us that several alumni of this department are in teaching, research, medical, administrative and other respectable professions. Several ex-students of this department have either completed their PhD work, or are now pursuing PhD from renowned universities of India. Bright students of this department got admitted in leading Universities of the country, like Burdwan University, Calcutta University, Kalyani University, and Banaras Hindu University for their M.Sc. courses.
