Head of the Department

The department of Geography was established in 2005. In that respect, we are a relatively new entrant to the to the glorious history of the College established in 1881; and yet, within this short span of time we have been able to achieve considerable academic excellence.

The Department is the home to around 120 UG students and 07 faculty members. Since its inception, the department focuses on the quality education for the students undergoing different courses. The department targets to attain over-all development of learners by maintaining a healthy Teacher-student relationship.

Our objectives are:

  • To grow in every learner the interest for the subject by making them correlate geographical phenomena with one’s own environment.
  • To inculcate new ideas by providing help to develop new models which can be displayed during Annual College Social boosting self-confidence for innovation and application.
  • To focus on the overall development each student through regular interactions on academic as well as non-academic issues.
  • To encourage each one of them to proceed to higher studies in the subject and allied fields.

Facilities

  • RS-GIS Laboratory (under construction)
  • LCD projectors for different presentations, projections and simulations during class room lectures
  • A Seminar Library offering wide range of books complementing a valuable collection of titles of the Central Library
  • Sufficient Laboratory equipment to carry out practical and field works

Distinctiveness

  • Every year the department produces university rank holders in UG level.
  • Most of the pass out students from the department opt for the higher studies and regularly get qualified for different all India exams like NET, SET etc.
  • We boast a very healthy and cordial teacher-student relationship. Students feel free to discuss their Academic as well as non-academic problems with the faculties who always try up to their level best for the solutions of such problems.
