The Department of Physics at Burdwan Raj College was established in 1958, although Physics as a subject had been taught since 1936. Students admitted here are among the best students of Burdwan and neighbouring districts. Most of them are recipients of national (DST Inspire) and/ or state-level scholarships.
Our objectives are to make strong foundation for the students to excel in the subject. As one of the best departments of the college, we always encourage caring young, intelligent, curious, ambitious, aspirant minds through cultivating and nurturing enthusiasm, interests, and passion, in the study of physics globally, in professional courses as a part of the curricula.
Our goals are:
- To motivate young minds to formulate and solve physical problems independently, express or share their thoughts, and progress as per their capabilities and talents through constant support and uncompromising dedication to teaching and innovative instructional methods.
- To make the proper mapping of Physics through innovative instructional methods like apposite use of PPTs & Visual Aids followed by rigorous interactions in theoretical classes, and through observations and realizations in practical classes, in every step relevant to all possible fields of physics applicable.
- To make the students aware of recent developments and challenges in the field of science through organizing seminar lectures.
- To develop a high level of competence by providing modern laboratory facilities, access to e-books, virtual laboratories, etc., in the study of Physics.
- To develop strategies in the Department for continuous improvement.
We prioritize:
- Addressing the issues of the students on immediate basis.
- Importance of teamwork. All the staff, with strong will and commitment, help the students not only in the classrooms but also co-operate on other issues like participation in science exhibitions, extracurricular activities, etc.
- Organization of regular parent-teacher-student meetings to report attendance, progress in internal assessment, university results, etc.
- Having regular feedback reports from guardians and students which are appropriately analysed to develop the strategies to serve the students in a better way.
- Building strong bonds between the Mentor-mentee, which enriches both the students and the teachers.
